Our thoughts and behaviours determine the trajectory of our lives. Through carefully cultivating self-discipline, we can instil positive habitual changes that lay the foundation for a better future.

We often know the right thing to do, but settle for short-term comfort at the expense of long-term success.
We are constantly in a state of flux. We grow or decay.
If we choose to dedicate our energy towards positive evolution, self-discipline is our secret weapon to maintaining progress.
I know learning new things, exercising regularly and healthy eating are all good for me.
Yet, I’m often void of motivation and time.
Instead, I choose to watch my favourite sitcom over reading that new chapter. I choose to put off exercising until next week (when I have more energy). I choose to eat that indulgent treat I don’t really need.
All of which, I know keeps me feeling sluggish and stationary.
Round and round I went, waiting for motivation to linger and the pull of procrastination to wane. Until I was introduced to a new friend: self-discipline.
Self-discipline is our greatest ally when motivation eludes us. With self-discipline, we do the things we don’t want to in the short term, which will lead us to what we want in the long term. We make wiser choices, ensuring our actions align with our values and goals.
We become what we give our attention to. If you find yourself out of alignment with what you really want, acquaint yourself with self-discipline. Visualise your future. Who do you want to be? Be clear on your values, set attainable goals and make purposeful changes to get you there.
For me, self-discipline is choosing:
– Progress over pleasure
– Education over entertainment
– Discomfort over comfort
What practises of self-discipline can you cultivate?
